A boutique winemaker, with a covered career resides in Orange NSW, a cool climate town with great potential to become one of Australia’s leading wine regions.
Searching for an Australian region capable of making classic wines with elegance, depth and intense fruit varietal came to rest 22 years ago when Philip Shaw discovered the undulating high-altitude peaks of Orange, NSW.
Philip Shaw Wines are sourced entirely from the 47-hectare vineyard, Koomooloo, which rests at an altitude of 900M on the side of the extinct volcano; Mt Canobolas. The altitude provides cooler conditions throughout the growing season and it's not unusual to see snowfalls during winter and into spring.
Koomooloo is perfect for the styles of wines Philip is keen to make, however, to work a vineyard like Koomooloo to its full potential has sometimes been daunting, with routine pruning, shoot thinning, leaf plucking, crop thinning, and hand picking.
Philip has been making wine in Australia for more than 40 years - his approach of wine making has a healthy mix of innovation and unrelenting quality standards.
