The Patritti Family, Winemaker, McLaren Vale

The Patritti Family Winemaker McLaren Vale Story by Patritti Wines

Giovanni Patritti would be proud to see his grandson James Mungall crafting wine under the very roof he constructed in Adelaide’s Dover Gardens, in the 1920s...

He’d be delighted to see his only daughter, Ines working hard in the director’s chair of the family winery and sons John and Geoffrey still contributing ideas and advice to their nephew in the barrel halls of suburban Adelaide.

In 1926, Giovanni established what is now the oldest, Italian family-owned winery in Australia. He arrived from Piedmont as a 25 year old, initially doing odd jobs, even selling ice-cream at the gate of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens.

Over the past 85 years, the family business has evolved with dedication and commitment from his offspring and the award-winning wines and juices are exported around the world from Adelaide’s only remaining, fully functioning winery.

Like many Italian families, the catalogue of wonderful memories is regularly shared and the anecdotes of the past can be found in the stories of the Family Range wines.
