Paul Boulden, Winemaker, Margaret River

Paul Boulden Winemaker Margaret River Story by Sandalford Wines

The appointment of Paul Boulden in 2001 as Sandalford Wines’ Chief Winemaker marked the renaissance of Sandalford’s winemaking.

His winemaking experience over 20 years had taken him from South Australia, Victoria to Bordeaux, Cataluña and finally Margaret River with Sandalford Wines.

Paul recognised the uncapped potential of Sandalford’s Estate dry-grown, 40-year-old vineyard, an asset of which any winemaker would be envious. With such a great viticultural resource, Paul set about bringing Sandalford’s wines up to par with some of the benchmark producers so renowned in the Wilyabrup sub-region of Margaret River. The culmination of this effort is best appreciated with the development of Sandalford’s Margaret River, Estate Reserve and Prendiville ranges of wines.

All these wines have won praise and accolades from national and international wine media not to mention numerous trophies and Gold Medals. In the end though, as Paul would say, “If the wine’s good, enjoy,” which is his way of saying regardless of medals and reviews, if you like the wine, these matter not.
