John Casella inherited his passion for wine from his father Filippo, who came from Sicily with his wife to settle in the Riverina region of NSW in 1965.
When John started working on the family Estate in 1995, he set the wheels in motion to change the landscape of Australian wine forever with the creation of [yellow tail] in 2001.
John identified an opportunity in the global wine market for an Australian wine brand that was fun, affordable and inviting. [yellow tail] is simple and non-threatening – it aims to demystify wine and enhance people’s social lives. The wine itself is soft, smooth and full of flavour, drawing on the fruit from many regions in South Eastern Australia to ensure consistent quality year-on-year.
[yellow tail] is now Australia’s largest export wine with 12 million cases distributed to more than 50 countries around the world each year. John works with his brothers Joe and Marcello, and his nephew Daniel and together they remain committed to maintaining [yellow tail]’s affordability and quality, but most of all, its fun and approachability.
