David and Tanya Freschi, Winemaker, Adelaide Hills

David and Tanya Freschi Winemaker Adelaide Hills Story by Casa Freschi

What would possess David Freschi to leave a winemaking position responsible for one third of New Zealand’s harvest to pursue his own label on a 2.5 hectare Langhorne Creek vineyard?

David left New Zealand in 1998 with wife Tanya to establish Casa Freschi. This vineyard, planted by David's parents in 1972, may have had some kind of spell on David, who had grown up on it and had seen the quality of wine his father had produced. (since 1999 the source for the iconic label "Profondo").

David & Tanya knew that the only way to been seen above the crowd was to push the boundaries of quality and wine style through innovation. They also have an innate love and respect for the environment.

They have grown their vineyard holdings to 7.7 hectares, including Nebbiolo in Langhorne Creek and white varieties in the Adelaide Hills, all at high density, and built their own gravity-fed winery in 2007 on the vineyard, where all wines are made, bottled and matured.

Today, they produce six highly individual, highly acclaimed single vineyard wines.
