Rajarshi and Sophie Ray, Vigneron, Shoalhaven Coast

Rajarshi and Sophie Ray Vigneron Shoalhaven Coast Story by Silos Estate & Wileys Creek

An Aussie, Kiwi and Indian walk into a winery and drink a wine with enough tannin to choke a giraffe. "We can do better than this", (they...not the giraffe) said.

Silos Estate is a unique ‘between the sea and the mountains’ vineyard, nestled at the bottom of the Great Dividing Range escarpment. It is home to the Ray family – second generation winemakers (well...their daughter is two years old anyway) – and is a much-loved part of the Shoalhaven region (just two hours south of Sydney).

Leaving corporate life in 2007 – Rajarshi, his wife Sophie, Zoe their daughter and Bella the cat - coax small run wines from the maritime climate soils which are much prized by quaffers and keepers alike.

Unique in its sustainable practices – Silos Estate became one fo the first carbon neutral wineries in Australia in 2008 – they are proud knowing that their winery operations each and every year leave the land in better shape than it was the year before.
