From solid plasterer to viticulturalist and winemaker of Sanguine Estate, Mark Hunter has had a massive career change but little did he know it was in his blood all along.
When father, Tony Hunter asked his son, Mark if he would like a career change from a solid plasterer to manage his vineyard that turned from a 10 acre weekender to a 55 acre business, he jumped at the idea.
Mark turned out to be a natural despite no previous horticultural or viticultural experience. It wasn't long before he had viticulture under control, fallen in love with wine and commenced a winemaking degree. It was in 2004 that Mark took over as Sanguine's full-time winemaker.
Tony and Lyn, couldn't be prouder with their son achieving consistent 90+ ratings from national and international winewriters. But little did the family know that winemaking was actually in his blood. Mark's great-great grandfather, Pietro D'Orsa had planted a vineyard and made wine nearby in the late 1800s. So it was destiny.
