Geoff Weaver began his winemaking life in 1974 and worked in big companies until 1992. In 1982 he purchased land at Lenswood, high in the Adelaide Hills and started planting.
They chose the location because it was high and cool and could allow grapes to develop flavours that could not be produced in warmer areas. At the start they had nothing; no tractor, borrowed gear needed a lot of help from winemaking friends but gradually it all came together with thier first wine made in 1985.
It almost didn't happen as the Ash Wednesday fires of 1983 burnt them out and they lost everything. A kick in the guts as they say. Still with perserverance and help the vineyard and wines have prospered.
It is a lovely place with long views over the hills. Geoff still gets a buzz being in the vineyard. The key to their quality is the low crops from their 25-year-old, dry-grown, hand-picked vines. The temperature environment is ideal for developing flavour whilst retaining balancing acid.
