Alan and Nelly Cooper, Vigneron, Macedon Ranges

Alan and Nelly Cooper Vigneron Macedon Ranges Story by Cobaw Ridge

Nestled at 610m above sea level on the Cobaw Ridge, overlooking Central Victoria, the Cooper’s artisan Cobaw Ridge vineyard and winery are a world away from corporate Australia.

Surrounded by natural forest full of wildlife and boulder outcrops, with granite and quartz protruding endlessly from the mountain soils; this is the unexpected side of Australian wine.

From the vineyard to the winery, operations have been undertaken by hand by the family, since establishment in 1985, ensuring no detail is overlooked. Essential to produce world class fruit and wines in Australia’s coolest mainland region, the Macedon Ranges.

This alternative approach continues to the organic / biodynamic management of the property certified NASAA, the pioneering of the rare Italian cultivar lagrein, production of truly cool climate syrah, and a strong belief that vintage variation should be celebrated in fine wine, not muted.

The marginality of this special site and the Cooper’s commitment to sustainable and natural production ensures these are truly unique wines of place and time; singular and full of vitality and character.
