Looking through the paper, David and Angela McGrath discovered a winery for sale in Stanthorpe. They decided on a Sunday drive to see what Mountview Wines had to offer.
Purchasing the winery in the Granite Belt was the easy part, continuing the traditions and the great reputation from the previous owners was going to be a challenge, especially for 2 people who were in the finance industry, already had full time business in Brisbane, and new nothing about making wine!
2005 saw them take over Mountview Wines with bottles in reserve, wine in barrels and a winemaker they came to love. Winemaker, Jim Barnes took them by the hand, showed them the ropes and lead them to win a couple of awards at the Australian Small Winemakers Show.
David and Angela McGrath continue to live and work in Brisbane 4 ½ days a week. Spending the rest of their time at Mountview operating the cellar door, working with winemaker to look after the 5 acre vineyard whilst also keeping the rest of their 40 acre property pristine.
