Loïc Le Calvez
Winemaker
Pyrenees
Story by Taltarni
Loïc Le Calvez came to Australia from his native France for Taltarni's 2001 vintage, but unlike all the other Europeans who arrive for vintage, he never left . . .
Meet Loïc: master blender, sports fanatic, Moonambel adoptee.
Loïc's love of wine was formed growing up around his father's fine wine store in Brittany. With a degree in oenology and a Masters in Law, Economics and Management in the Wine Sector (University of Bordeaux), it’s not surprising that Loïc went from assistant winemaker in 2002 to chief winemaker in 2006 to his current post of chief winemaker/chief of operations in 2009.
Loïc embraced the Australian wine industry's innovative and flexible approach to blending, as demonstrated in Taltarni's reserve shiraz/cabernet (Rhone/Bordeaux) wine. He’s also adopted Australia's fanaticism for football, enthusiastically supporting The AFL’s Brisbane Lions, a team that just happens to rally to the sound of France's national anthem.
In return, the residents of Moonambel, all 300 of them, have adopted Loïc as one of their own.
