Fred Strachan, Winegrower, Riverland

Fred Strachan Winegrower Riverland Story by Oxford Landing Estates

The name Oxford Landing has always been synonymous with the quenching of a parched thirst.

Once just a rest point along the Murray River – an oasis to thirsty sheep and their drovers – Oxford Landing Estates is now home to a diverse group of friends and a cracker collection of wine.

The small group of people who work at Oxford Landing Estates in South Australia’s Riverland are arguably some of the most dedicated vineyard workers around. It could be the region’s never-ending sunshine, the local lifestyle or the quality of the fruit they grow – something has them hooked.

If you can’t find vineyard manager Fred Strachan and his crew in the vineyard, which is micromanaged as 130 five-acre blocks, then they’re probably out the back, returning 600 hectares of former farmland to native bushland.

This dedication to the vineyard is evidenced by the quality found in each bottle of Oxford Landing Estates wine – from Riesling to Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc to Cabernet Sauvignon.
