Stuart Watson carried on the family love of Cabernet Sauvignon when he took over the reigns as winemaker at Woodlands in 2002.
Woodlands, one of Margaret River's oldest and most respected wineries, was established in 1973 by David and Heather Watson in the Wilyabrup Valley.
David and Heather aimed to make great Cabernet blends that would be world class, and as such planted the vineyard almost entirely with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc. Uniquely for a Margaret River producer, Woodlands does not have any Semillon or Sauvignon Blanc planted.
Stuart took over the reigns as winemaker at Woodlands in 2002, and found immediate success with the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon - a great wine and trophy winner. Since then, Stuart and his brother Andrew have strived to produce Cabernets that speak of their vintage and vineyard.
