The Hardys Nottage Hill range of wines takes its name from company legend, Thomas Hardy Nottage. Old Tom Nottage was a nephew of the founder of Hardys Wines, Thomas Hardy.
Tom Nottage worked for his uncle for some 66 years from 1884. For more than 50 years he managed the Tintara vineyards at McLaren Vale and the Tintara Winery as well. It seemed only fitting that one of the best vineyards should be named in honour of him.
When, in 1967, an exceptional single vineyard wine, made from Shiraz grapes grown on ‘Nottage Hill’, was released, it was only natural that it should carry the name of Old Tom and 'his' vineyard. And so Nottage Hill Claret came into being. Its popularity was such that, by the mid 1970s, 'the Hill' was no longer big enough to supply the demand.
Today, the Nottage Hill name is well known and greatly appreciated in wine markets around the world. Affordable wines that deliver rare concentration of fruit flavour together with soft, smooth palate texture, has ensured their popularity for over four decades.
