Whitlands Vineyard Winegrower King Valley Story by Brown Brothers

Australia is known for its warm sunshine and golden beaches, but at Brown Brothers, they are surrounded by a very different Australian environment.

Situated at 800m above sea level, their Whitlands Vineyard in the King Valley is one of the highest vine plantings in Australia. Often blanketed in snow and cloud during the winter, it’s no wonder Brown Brothers’ Whitlands vineyard is home to some of Australia’s finest sparkling and cool climate wines.

The Brown family, who have been making wine at Milawa in the King Valley for over 120 years, established the Whitlands vineyard in 1982 as a site for producing sparkling wine and cool climate grape varieties. Almost 30 years on, the company has become famous for its sparkling range, led by the multi-award winning Patricia Brut and the Pinot Noir, Chardonnay & Pinot Meunier NV.

With an average summer temperature of 19ºC, this vineyard has become a refuge away from the heat in the valley which can reach over 40ºC, and has become a favourite picnic lunch location.
