Like watching your kids grow into adults, a winemaker can't help regarding wines made by his own hands in a similar way.
2007 was winemaker John Durham's first vintage at Plantagenet and it was also the hottest vintage he ever experienced in WA. Sure, one could say it was a difficult birth but it was mercifully also a quick one. The fruit looked good, still with spice and characteristic pepper, but with a huge frame and taste to boot.
John has a wonderfully rich history in the wine industry & relocated to the Great Southern from Margaret River, where he spent 22 years as Senior Winemaker at Cape Mentelle.
He was initially attracted to the wine industry for its diversity, as well as the pleasure of producing a product that changes with the seasons and place from which it came.
John also spent time overseas in France and Italy, where he was fortunate enough to work a vintage at Chateau Margaux as well as being involved in blending tastings at Veuve Clicquot.
