Clare and Keith Mugford, Winemaker, Margaret River

Clare and Keith Mugford Winemaker Margaret River Story by Moss Wood

Clare and Keith Mugford have been growing grapes and making wine, together, at Moss Wood for over 26 years. They are dedicated to working together in the relentless pursuit of excellence.

This dedication is the secret to the consistent quality of Moss Wood wines and is underpinned by the rare and immense quality of the Moss Wood vineyard site.

Wilyabrup is a particularly good grape growing area and the Moss Wood site consistently produces outstanding fruit from its carefully managed vines, most of which are 30 to 40-plus years old. The noble varieties, Cabernet, Semillon, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir luxuriate in the maritime and Mediterranean climate. Ripeness is not a problem, equally finesse is not hard to achieve in this area, which has a consistent climate providing 1000 millimetres of rain per year and hottest extremes of a few hours a year of late 30 degrees Celsius.

Pristine beaches and grand old forests of indigenous trees shade large tracts of land and the area boasts a thriving beef industry. The inhabitants of the area, both plant and animal are truly blessed.
