Mike Brown, Winemaker, McLaren Vale

Mike Brown Winemaker McLaren Vale Story by Gemtree Vineyards

Gemtree Winemaker MIke Brown has two passions in life: rugby and wine -“winemaking from the heart”

Mike's enthusiasm for rugby comes from 20 years playing and 35 years watching. He's an avid Wallabies supporter whose highlight was attending the World Cup in France 2007.

After working/travelling through Spain, the destination was Marseilles to see the Wallabies. After a massive train ride through Spain and France to get to the game, his tickets, clothing and all possessions were stolen. He still made it to the game but disappointment continued as the Wallabies were beaten by England.

The wine love runs along same time line. His parents always had wine on the table and he always liked the smell. d’Arry (d’Arenberg) used to fish on his property & leave wines to say thanks. 25 years later, he started his apprenticeship with d'Arry.

After gaining wolrd-wide experience, his home is McLaren Vale and Gemtree, where they've carved a reputation for growing great fruit and converting it into great wine.
