Rutherglen has a new winery! Morris family history gave impetus for the establishment of Scion Vineyard. This history is a wonderful backdrop to Scion's progressive style and trophy winning wines.
Rutherglen is historic, rustic and has a long history of family wine business. A scion of this history, namely pioneering Rutherglen vigneron (1859) GF Morris, is Scion Vineyard. In 2002, inspired great-great granddaughter Jan Milhinch began to write a new chapter in Rutherglen's wine history by establishing Scion Vineyard from bare earth.
In eight short years Scion has grown from the planting of an eight-acre vineyard into a dynamic boutique wine business. Scion's specialties are regional heroes Durif and Brown Muscat. Perhaps the success of their wine is the combination of traditional varieties crafted with Scion's progressive vision?
What would GF Morris think if he could see Scion Vineyard today, as a unique scion of the Morris dynasty, and an exciting new entity making waves in a wonderfully historic Australian wine region?
