Ben Glaetzer
Winemaker
Barossa Valley
Story by Glaetzer Wines
What does Egyptian mythology have to do with the Barossa Valley? More than you might first think...
At Glaetzer Wines, they're often asked about the Egyptian themed labels which feature on their Amon-Ra Shiraz and Anaperenna Shiraz Cabernet.
What could the Barossa possibly have in common with ancient Egypt, you might ask? Apart from the fact that winemaker Ben Glaetzer looks suspiciously like a character from the movie "The Mummy", the temple of Amon-Ra in Egypt is considered the birthplace of modern winemaking.
The "Eye of Horus" adorns the label of their Amon-Ra Shiraz - an Egyptian symbol of protection. The symbol has six parts - corresponding to the six senses - touch, taste, hearing, sight, smell and thought. Amon-Ra Shiraz was created to appeal to all of those senses.
The Ancient inspiration behind a modern Barossa wine. Very Egyptian indeed.
