"I am simply trying to convey what the vineyard has endured in the past year with a message in a bottle." - Dan Standish
The eponymous Dan Standish was handed down the age-old art of pruning grape vines from his grandfather at the early age of six in his ancestral vineyard.
From a prolific sixth generation Barossan grape growing family, Dan knows a thing or two about vines and the sun-kissed vineyards of Vine Vale. Harvest stints in California’s Napa and Sonoma valleys, La Rioja and Yecla in Spain, coupled with extensive travel and study of France’s Rhône Valley, reinforce his intricate local knowledge with a diverse international bent.
While The Standish Wine Company was founded on a single parcel of ancient dry grown Shiraz, Dan is a staunch believer that a combination of clone, soil type, vineyard aspect and site selection are paramount. With tireless curiosity he has studied how various clonal cuttings meld with particular soil types in an ongoing quest to create an exciting new generation of great Barossa vineyards.
