Glenn James, Winemaker, McLaren Vale

Glenn James Winemaker McLaren Vale Story by Ducks in a Row Winemakers

Unique. New. Independent. At Ducks in a Row, Glenn wants to increase the palette of colours that paint your wine world. He's not a hippy, but his wines are alternative.

At Ducks in a Row, alternative wine varieties really float their boat.

They appreciate Shiraz, Cabernet and Chardonnay, but are happy to let others make those wines while they focus on new and alternative varieties that take up a fraction of shelf space and palate share in Australia. Think Vermentino, Fiano, Aglianico... They're all they think about.

Not only do these alternative varieties offer new flavours and textures, they are also “climate change” varieties, more tolerant to a warming climate and more sustainable in their use of water and nutrient additions. They may just be the future of the Australian wine drinking (and making) landscape.

Ducks in a Row wines tell a unique story. They call their Mataro "erect habit" because of the vine's upward growth tendency. Their Vermentino and Fiano are from the oldest plantings of these vines in Australian soil.

Glenn & Amanda hope you enjoy a dabble.
