John Younie Tulloch, Vigneron, Hunter

John Younie Tulloch Vigneron Hunter Story by Tulloch Wines

John Younie Tulloch (JY) began the Tulloch story in 1895 when he accepted a 35-acre property at Pokolbin in the Hunter Valley as settlement of a debt.

The property contained five acres of neglected Shiraz vines, which JY set about rejuvenating and so began the proud family tradition that continues today.

JY's son, Hector, continued the story and was responsible for bringing the Tulloch label to prominence in the 50's and 60's with the introduction of the famous, Private Bin and Pokolbin Dry Red shiraz labels.

Now the Tulloch story lives on with fourth generation twins, Christina (General Manager) and Jock (Export Manager) and their father Jay Tulloch (also JYT) as Managing Director.

Christina recently asked her father Jay, what her forebearers Hector and JY would think about a woman running the company and the reply was very simply, "They would be bloody horrified!"
