A unique climate, commitment, endurance and innovation and have coalesced in Rutherglen creating a region with a deep soul, a sense of history, and a dose of old fashioned humor.
19 wineries make up the Winemakers of Rutherglen and each has their own personality and fascinating stories to tell. Members differ in size, wine range and history.
Many of these great winemaking houses sprang up in the gold rush days and are still owned and run by fourth, fifth and sixth generations of the original family owners. These families have made and sold wine from their cellar doors through drought, depression, the great phylloxera plague and a couple of world wars, for over 150 years. The legacy of winemaking skills and ancient stocks is being carefully passed on to a younger generation.
All the members of the Winemakers of Rutherglen have one thing in common, a dedication to the ongoing development of superior wines and exceptional wine tourism experiences.
