Sue Bell, Winemaker, Coonawarra

Sue Bell Winemaker Coonawarra Story by BELLWETHER

Bellwether is a leader or indicator of future trends, with a parallel drawn to the wether in a flock wearing a bell around it's neck to help with directions.

However, we dare you to try and predict where Sue Bell is today!

Bellwether is her indulgence - making wines she wants to drink, and giving her a great excuse to travel. She loves hills, so what exactly is she doing in Coonawarra, which we all know is flat? Sue claims there are hills, they're just underground ones, undulations in the limestone and therefore soil depth, so it takes more than a quick glance to determine the best parcel, row or vines to pick.

A self-confessed "wine dag" Sue loves Cabernet and believes in Coonawarra. She gets excited by the texture and refinement of tannins, especially when vines are respected.

If you're passing through Coonawarra you might even catch her tissue-wrapping her Cabernet at the Glen Roy Shearing Shed, but then again she might be in Kununurra or Wine Glass Bay that day too?
