Alfred Pizzini, Vigneron, King Valley

Alfred Pizzini Vigneron King Valley Story by Pizzini Wines

Family, friends, food and wine are the three loves (or Tre Amori) of the Pizzini family. They're passionate about sharing their knowledge of interesting wines that pair perfectly with food.

The King Valley wine region is in north-east Victoria. It's a long and narrow valley, and vineyard site elevations range between 200m to 800m above see level. Many of the vignerons in the King (including the Pizzini family) are first and second generation Italians who ventured to the King originally to grow tobacco.

With diversification to grape growing came a passion and expertise in growing and making wine styles from Italy. Pizzini planted Nebbiolo and Sangiovese in the mid 1980s, Arneis, Brachetto, Picolit, Verduzzo and Pinot Grigio followed.

Pizzini's greatest achievement has been to produce a Reserve Sangiovese and Reserve Nebbiolo. The Sangiovese is made from the Brunello clone and these vines are planted on a hillside slope with shallow, rocky soils. The Nebbiolo comes off a site at about 400m above sea level, and the vines are planted on a steep slope again with shallow rocky soils.
