At Taylors, their simple mantra ‘The wine is everything’ is the basis for their wine-making philosophy and is behind every decision they make, including moving to a screw cap closure.
In the past 40 years, Taylors has established itself as one of Australia’s most successful wine brands. It's the largest winery in the Clare Valley – so they had a lot to lose if they failed.
In 2000, Mitchell Taylor met with a group of 11 other Clare Valley winemakers (at the Rising Sun pub in Auburn) and jointly decided that they'd had enough of cork ruining their delicate aromatic Clare Valley Rieslings and they would all release their vintage 2000 Rieslings under a Stelvin screw cap.
Such was Mitchell's personal belief in screw caps that four years later, Taylors became the first major Aussie wine company to bottle all of their wines both red and whites under screw cap.
2010 marks the 10th anniversary of that courageous decision taken by a small band of Clare Valley winemakers and it proved to be a catalyst for global change!
