Tim Adams, Winemaker, Clare Valley

Tim Adams Winemaker Clare Valley Story by Tim Adams Wines

Originally a Bank Manager's son, Tim Adams is the last apprentice of iconic Clare Valley winemaker, the late Mr Mick Knappstein.

Tim has come full circle in the wine industry - from cellarhand at Stanley Wine Company in 1975 to owning one of Clare Valley's most recognised labels - Tim Adams Wines.

Tim believes the values he learned from "Mr Mick" are still prevalent today, with integrity, honesty and quality often repeated motifs of this family business.

The winery has come a long way since he and wife Pam purchased it in 1987. It now crushes 1,000 tonnes of grapes annually, and focuses on making wines exclusively from Clare Valley, with grapes selected for their authentic varietal and regional characters.

Shunning trends, Tim combines timeless philosophy with innovation, creating polished wines full of character, elegance and value.

Today, Tim Adams Wines is recognised and applauded for being "classically Clare" with traditional varieties holding fort, and new varieties adding "fresh strings to what is an already formidable bow"- according to Huon Hooke.
