Troy & Wilbur (pig) Kalleske, Winemaker, Barossa Valley

Troy & Wilbur (pig) Kalleske Winemaker Barossa Valley Story by Kalleske Wines

Best looking pig in Australia’ well Wilbur certainly seems to get in more photos than the boys do these days. Why a pig as a winery pet you ask?

Well why not, he thinks he is a dog anyway and let’s just say that Wilbur is as happy as a pig in ....grape marc.

When not feeding (my how he can eat!) and playing with Wilbur, the Kalleske boys (Troy & Tony) crank out some serious wines from their families certified organic and biodynamic vineyards in the Greenock region of the Barossa Valley. The oldest vineyard is a dry grown 1875 planting of Shiraz that pays homage to their earliest ancestor Johann Georg who migrated from Prussia in 1838. Now seven generations later the original farm is still run by the family with their brother Kym being the vigneron. Troy was honoured to be named the ‘Barons of Barossa Winemaker of the Year’ for 2008 and has a knack for making wines that truly reflect their origin. Handcrafted natural wines the way nature intended!
