Matthew Gilbert, the middle "Devil" of the Gilbert family, works hard to capture the true flavours of his family's vineyard in Mt Barker, WA. Can we net his enthusiasm?
The Gilbert family have been harvesting flavours for three generations from their property in the Great Southern region of WA. In 1985, apples and sheep were not enough so the family planted a vineyard and started the next generation of Gilberts.
As each block of grapes were planted, along came a son!
The name "Three Devils" correspond to their first three blocks of grapes and now the boys are in their 20s, "Three Lads" seems more appropriate. They're young, enthusiastic and - as with all lads - are off travelling and exploring, returning to assist with pruning or picking.
The family now looks forward to producing "The Three Gents", when the next generation can continue the tradition of nurturing flavours from this part of the world. They'll have gathered wisdom and a love of the world and will be able to harvest the flavours and present them to the world.
