The big decisions in Australia are not made at Parliament House in Canberra....the big issues .....the important decisions that affect our nation, are decided in the humble Australian pub.
In 2001, Kym Teusner overheard a worrying conversation... it was a situation that presented a clear and present danger to the Australian wine industry and action needed to be taken.
The viability of an old Grenache vineyard, planted in the Northern Barossa Valley was being discussed. The low yields and low prices being paid meant that the vineyard was running at a loss and was facing certain destruction!
A beer summit was hastily convened at a local Barossan watering hole with viticulturist and now business partner Michael Page.
Over a few frosty ales, a plan to save the vineyard was hatched, money was scratched together and the forces of evil were thwarted.
The vineyard was saved and a winery was born with the release of the 2002 Teusner Joshua GSM.
So....a salute to the Australian pub and to saving old vineyards...cheers from the lads at Teusner!
