What can be described as a wine philosophy lesson like no other, Dominique Portet’s beginnings were at Chateau Lafite, Bordeaux. This mischievous boy never dreamed of becoming a proud ‘Frozzie'.
While peddling his bike through the vineyards of Médoc, his father André would shoo his young son out of the château cellars, usually to play hide and seek, encouraging an adventurous life beyond those gravely banks.
Making his way to California’s Napa Valley (graduating Dux Oenology, Montpellier University), he crafted wines with his brother Bernard. However, much like the environment he was soon to encounter, Dominique hopped a little further searching for vineyards to rival his native France.
The soil, sun, landscape, people, freedom, culture – in this land he found his dream! The young Frenchman was hooked on his new discovery, and decades of pioneering fine wine has followed. Australia became home, now in his blood and that of his sons.
