The Plunkett and Fowles families have a deep appreciation for the granite-rich Strathbogie Ranges. Their winery, vineyards and homes rest amidst the cool, dry and elevated stone.
For decades, the two families have worked hard developing extensive local knowledge: from pioneering fruit growing to understanding the personality of individual vineyard blocks and by experimenting with creative winemaking. The fruits of their labour and experience can be found in their range of wines.
From their years of experience there are rules and exceptions - and this is reflected in their wines.
The Rule, of course, is Shiraz. Year in, year out, Shiraz is the variety that does best in the "Bogies" and it's the variety that's captured winemaker Sam Plunkett's heart - hence it's earned the right at Plunkett Fowles to bear this name.
Contrasting The Rule is The Exception - one-off, never-to-be-repeated projects driven by a strong desire to experiment!
And for Plunkett Fowles Managing Director Matt Fowles - a former lawyer - having rules and exceptions is part and parcel of his background.
