“In life there is family, wine and golf. A world without these is too sad to contemplate.” Fortunately for Barossa winemaker, Stuart Blackwell, he’s got all three covered.
The Tanunda Pines Golf Course has plenty of history behind it, but testing times a few years back called its future into question until a group of wine industry folks, including Stuart, invested in it to save it rather than let it disappear.
Stuart can be found playing at every possible moment and the fabulous championship course now hosts major Senior and Amateur tour events. His passion for dog legs and albatrosses is interwoven with St Hallett’s strong associations with the PGA Traineeships Competition and the Australian Police Golf Club.
And of course, gaining those crucial listings at 19th Holes around Australia sees Stuart waving the flag (or is that 7 iron?) for St Hallett and Barossa Shiraz as much as he can. His in-depth knowledge of the Barossa’s soils and patchwork quilt of mesoclimates has ended up being invaluable on both the course and in the winery.
