Fanchon sees the best bits of her Mediterranean upbringing all around her in McLaren Vale. Most importantly, that wine is part of any ‘complete’ meal, just like pepper and salt!
With a childhood split between southern France and the Mediterranean island of Corsica, Tatachilla winemaker, Fanchon Ferrandi, has enjoyed good food, great wine and a laid-back lifestyle since her earliest days. She has a natural affinity with the olive groves, sea-blue vistas and Mediterranean flavour of McLaren Vale.
From age 9, Fanchon had only two careers in mind: acrobatics and winemaking. After countless stories from dad about winemaking in South West France in the 1950s and hours spent exploring cellars and practising food and wine matching at meals with her parents, winemaking won the day. The lack of a circus in Nice might have also been a factor!
For Fanchon the essence of Tatachilla lies in exploring the ancient soils and unique maritime climate of McLaren Vale. She intuitively understands the Mediterranean character of this dynamic region, creating vibrant wines, rich and ripe with an elegance of structure.
