Story by Whistling Kite Vineyard
Pam & Tony Barich feel at one with nature - their Whistling Kite Vineyard on the banks of the River Murray is a haven for wildlife - resident and transitory.
Tony believes that custodians of the land have a duty to maintain its health and vitality, thereby ensuring our own well being and Whistling Kite Vineyard has had Organic certification for almost a decade and Biodynamic certification since 2008.
The vineyard is alive - alive with the sound of the Whistling Kite calling as it soars overhead, the Butcherbird’s trilling song as it sits atop a strainer post proclaiming its territory. And one day in Spring, there was a new sound - a buzzing, the unmistakable hum of a swarm of honey bees which appeared in the vineyard. No-one knows where they came from but the cordon of a vine is no place for a new hive so they won’t stay long.
Tony knows they’ll buzz off soon but the fact they’re here at all demonstrates this vineyard really is a haven for creatures great and small.
