Dean Hewitson, Winemaker, Barossa Valley

Dean Hewitson Winemaker Barossa Valley Story by Hewitson

Hewitson Old Garden Mourvèdre is a single vineyard wine planted in 1853 in Barossa Valley. It's the oldest Mourvèdre vineyard in the World. Every vine is today 157 years old.

Planted on deep sand over limestone derived millions of years ago as an ancient lake bed before a rock wall gave way, draining the lake and forever changing the course of the Para River through the Valley. This is a unique site that tells the story of great wine just as each of the great vineyard sites of Burgundy, Bordeaux, The Rhone and Rhine do.

Hewitson makes its home among some of the oldest vineyards in the world. Discovering the beauty within these venerable old vines and expressing their distinctive characters through winemaking that respects tradition and understands progress is the essence of Hewitson.

They are dedicated to producing traditionally-made, expressive wines from the great vineyards of South Australia's famous wine regions: Adelaide Hills, Eden Valley, McLaren Vale and Barossa Valley. Geographically these regions are collectively known as The Adelaide Super Zone. This is Hewitson's backyard.
