John Harris’ move from Yarra Valley legend Domaine Chandon back home to the Pyrenees was a perfect opportunity for he and his wine-loving extended family to create Mitchell Harris Wines.
"I've come full-circle!" John says of returning to the Pyrenees, excited about the buzz in the hills, with a crop of new makers reinvigorating wines in the region.
It's a small but energetic venture with his family, and John is excited about the potential of the region to deliver beautiful fruit. Mitchell Harris sources grapes from a home base of Ballarat, including growers in the Macedon and Pyrenees Ranges. He believes that spending thousands of hours at the tasting bench gives the wines identity and personality.
At Mitchell Harris, small is beautiful. Small size and volume allow collecting terrific little parcels of fruit, flexibility to create tiny runs of delicious and different wines, and no big company constraints.
2010 continues to be busy for Mitchell Harris, with John selected as an industry Future Leader, as well as the wines appearing in more restaurants, bars, stores and glasses across Australia.
