The Munzberg Family, Winegrower, Barossa Valley

The Munzberg Family Winegrower Barossa Valley Story by Mad Dog Wines

Five generations of the Munzberg family have a strong connection with the Barossa region and the local community.

Munzberg's have been part of the Barossa community for more than 100 years (arriving from Germany in 1884). Paul Ludwig planted his first vines on the family farm at Vine Vale in 1908, starting an unbroken grapegrowing heritage that continues today.

Matthew and Kendall, the current custodians of the family vineyard, along with Matthew's parents Geoff and Helen, put aside a small amount of their best fruit each year to produce their own label 'Mad Dog'. The flagship of Mad Dog's production is Shiraz, however being a little inovative is not beyond them and a Sangiovese is also produced in very small quantities.

Mad Dog - named after a mythical person "Mad Dog Munzberg" - is a small Barossa Valley winemaker with deep roots in the local comunity - you can almost taste their long heritage in the wines they produce.
