It’s a journey that’s gone from tracking down rare orchids in Sri Lanka to realising that the plants Susie loved most were the ones in the family vineyard in Wrattonbully.
The route took Susie from London to Mauritius, Dubai, the Maldives and Sri Lanka - always searching for new and exotic plants and flowers for nursery projects on far flung island resorts.
But the pull of home is also strong, and the vines in the ancient Wrattonbully soils held as much mystique as those exotics from the jungles closer to the equator. Slowly but surely the vines took hold of Susie as she learnt that what’s on the doorstep can be amazing too.
Now Susie is the fourth generation to farm the land in Wrattonbully, and the second generation in the vineyard her parents planted. This special patch of earth and the wines made from it are her life now, and only a small orchid plant on a window sill tells a story of adventures past.
