Cliff Royle, Winemaker, Margaret River

Cliff Royle Winemaker Margaret River Story by Flametree Wines

The Flametree is a spectacular native Australian tree which comes into full flower only when all conditions are favourable; similar to a perfect vintage that results in world class wines.

Flametree Wines was catapulted into winemaking folklore after winning Australia's most prestigious wine award, the Jimmy Watson Trophy, with its first ever red wine, the 2007 Cabernet Merlot.

The aim at Flametree is to make a range of wines that play to the strengths of the region, and newly appointed winemaker, Cliff Royle, thinks Margaret River is without doubt the number one premium wine region in Australia. The team are able to consistently produce benchmark wines made from the classic grape varieties Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon - all with a sense of place.

Cliff has been making wine in the Margaret River wine region for many years, and whilst his hand wasn't involved in the award winning 2007 Cabernet Merlot, he is hoping to add another Jimmy Watson to the Flametree trophy cabinet when his top Cabernets hit the cellar door.
