Vermentino Growers
Winegrower
Riverland
Story by Yalumba
Determination, imagination, risk taking, a family, a winery and a grape variety. The ingredients for a good news story set in a challenging yet beautiful landscape.
Three years ago, Renmark growers Bob & Fay Reichstein were in the right place at the right time. Struggling to sell their grapes, they contacted Yalumba to express their desire of becoming a grower for Australia’s oldest family-owned wine company.
At the time of Bob & Fay’s call, Yalumba had identified Vermentino as the grape variety to champion in the Riverland region of South Australia. This crossing of paths resulted in a successful union between grower, winery, variety and region. But it did come with conditions: Bob & Fay had to remove four hectares of Chardonnay and plant Vermentino and they had to work with The Yalumba team to learn about and understand how best to grow this ‘new’ variety.
Three years on and in glass, the Yalumba Vermentino is already receiving great reviews. A true example of what growers and wineries can achieve.
