Rolf Binder & Christa Deans, Winemaker, Barossa Valley

Rolf Binder & Christa Deans Winemaker Barossa Valley Story by Rolf Binder Wines

Brother and sister winemaking team, Rolf Binder and Christa Deans, have developed the family's Veritas Winery and vineyards, and honoured their father with a name change to Rolf Binder Wines.

The devastation of their homeland during the Second World War led Hungarian industrial chemist, Rolf Binder, and his Austrian wife, Franzciska, to Australia, and to a new beginning as grapegrowers and winemakers in the Barossa Valley.

Rolf worked on the railways where he met train driver Elmore Schulz, a part-time grape grower from the region.

Rolf and Francizka spent many weekends in the Barossa: pruning; picking; and partying with the locals. In 1954 Rolf took a winery apprenticeship, and in 1955, purchased the same winery, renaming it "Veritas" (truth).

Rolf Jnr and Christa cut their teeth at Veritas Winery, and with the death of their father in 2003, and the 50th anniversary in 2005, decided to rename the brand "Rolf Binder Wines".

Rolf and Christa have gone on to improve the old vineyards, and have each made a name for themselves as fine wine makers from classic Barossa Valley fruit.
