Deanne Eaton, Winemaker, New England Australia

Deanne Eaton Winemaker New England Australia Story by deetswood wines

This picturesque Tenterfield vineyard may be young, but Deetswood is built on a strong tradition of family that saw engineer, Deanne, trade train lines for grape vines.

The lure of new grapes and family took Deanne Eaton back to Tenterfield where she is rapidly establishing a name for the boutique cold-climate vineyard, deetswood wines.

While she was immersed in a busy engineering career in Newcastle, Deanne’s parents planted the seeds for her return home by establishing a vineyard on their 4th generation cattle farm.

As the vines grew, so did the attractive prospect of leaving behind the difficulties of juggling her own job, young children and her husband’s shiftwork, and moving the family home to Tenterfield.

But lying back and admiring the view was not for Deanne. Her background as an engineer and project manager kicked in and she went back to uni to study winemaking.

Deanne is now making the deetswood wines and, as well as having an adventure, the Eaton family is beginning to earn some healthy respect for its distinctive wines.
