David Lowe is mildly asthmatic and wanted to develop a preservative free wine. All his university lecturers told him it couldn’t be done. Now it is his most successful wine.
David has been organic for 7 years and the Mudgee region is full of organic winemakers. David is convinced the wines are great and provide a real difference to the majority of Australian wines: from the depth of colour; the background tannin; and the hard, well drained soil.
The Mudgee wine region suffers because there are no real stars and David believes these wines will help the regions image.
Without the weapons of sulphur you need colour, concentration and low pH which occurs with Lowe Wines unirrigated, untrellised, organic Merlot.
Since the first release in 2009 the organic Merlot is the most successful wine by style and by review. New South Wales and Mudgee suffer from a lack of identity, and help with marketing and with David’s innovation, hopefully this will change.
