The minute I set eyes on the place I knew it would be a tough gig. My title 'Director of Pest Control' my Mission: protect our premium cool climate fruit.
The setting was gorgeous, perched up high on the Lake George escarpment near Canberra where I was born.
I was young, and so was the vineyard, but we've grown together and now have 11 good seasons under our belt. Boss is a third generation vigneron and a pefectionist; he's passionate about producing pristine fruit from our pinot noir, pinot gris and cabernet franc/merlot vines.
He expects a lot from me, but work is what us kelpies do best, and so I keep a constant watch out from my post near the vineyard tower for any pests (mainly hares, currawongs and cockatoos) that might have their sights on our fruit or vines.
Its because we've got top quality fruit we're able to make some uniquely expressive wines, so the Boss is really happy. He must be, he's named one after me!
Watch out for Conti's Tower, you'll love it!
