Orange
Story by Bloodwood
Bloodwood is synonymous with fine wine and food of the rapidly emerging Orange region, and the Doyles are thrilled to have planted the pioneering wine grape vineyard during Spring 1983.
Orange is the most Continental of Australia's cool climate growing regions being more than 250 kms off the NSW coast. Its elevation (600-1050 metres) and geological diversity ensure that many classic wine varieties do much more than well more often than not.
Cool, classic Continental varieties like Pinot Noir; Riesling; Chardonnay and Shiraz often astound in Orange, while Merlot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon grown with care and restraint in appropriate sites can be truly thrilling to the senses.
While Sauvignon Blanc has been idenrtified as the region's hero variety and does very well alongside Pinot Gris in more elevated sites, the remarkable thing about Orange as a wine growing area is that there is a niche which suits most classic cool climate varieties.
So there you have it. Orange is a fabulous place to grow outstanding quality wine grapes, and Bloodwood Wines was and remains the pioneer.
