For Shuqi Chen, from Nanjing in China, her search for a different kind of education started in her teenage years.
At fifteen, she suggested studying overseas, and with her father’s support, she applied at a number of foreign universities after graduating from high school.
“I got several offer letters from different universities, including Monash”, says Shuqi. “I decided to go to Monash because it was the most affordable for me and I liked the course structure of the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science Advanced.”
Monash is ranked number two in the world for pharmacy and pharmacology (QS Rankings by Subject 2017), and Shuqi sees this in the calibre of students the university attracts.
"For example, all my classmates are very self-disciplined and industrious and I am really motivated by their diligence every day. Also, all my lecturers are caring for the students: they remember your name, answer your whimsical questions and help you whenever you have difficulty understanding the lectures”, affirms Shuqi.
Shuqi is enjoying the extra challenge of becoming a mentor to first year university students.
“This is an interesting challenge and helps the students prepare for university life”.
Shuqi has her sights set on a great career once she graduates.
