Television presenter and cook Marion Grasby reckons she has the best job in the world.  Recently she embarked on the ultimate gourmet expedition of South Australia, to discover what makes the region a foodies paradise.

Food is Marion’s passion.  The one-time journalist and MasterChef Australia  finalist is now based in Thailand and travels throughout Asia, developing her own gourmet food brand.

Whilst in Adelaide to present the new Australia Network TV program 'Marion's Gourmet South Australia' , Marion returned to the place that first inspired her passion for flavour, the Willunga Farmers Market.  “It’s where I fell in love with fresh, local produce," she says.  "The thing I love about it the most is that you can chat to people who nurture the food you’re buying."

The tour took place in association with Tasting Australia, one of the country’s most influential and popular food festivals.  The biennial event is a celebration of South Australia’s all-embracing ‘foodie’ culture.   It attracts 50,000 people to the city of Adelaide – producers, winemakers, chefs and people who just love their food.

Marion’s tasty adventure took her from South Australia’s country to coast. Festival Director Simon Bryant says “It’s not just food in the regions - behind those producers are beautiful areas to visit - the wineries, the farms and just reconnecting with where your food is grown.”

“That’s one of the things I love about food here in South Australia, is that sense of place,” Marion says. “The food that’s grown here tastes different from somewhere else.”

Not only did Marion sample some fine wines and gourmet delights on her journey, she also tried her hand at cheese making, gnocchi rolling and cooking curry on a giant wok with legendary chef Cheong Liew.

Marion’s gastronomic tour culminated in a foodie night of nights, Tasting Australia’s Origins Dinner, prepared by 30 great international chefs.  It was here she got to taste some of the dishes that she’d tracked along her journey from farm gate to plate.

“It was an amazing night, a real celebration of South Australia.”

Marion’s Gourmet South Australia premieres on Australia Network July 14.
